Effects of Hard Water on Heating Elements
There are a number of minerals in tap water which are beneficial to the human body ie. calcium, magnesium and zinc. However, when hard water is heated it causes the minerals in the water to form a scale deposit on the element in Hot Water Systems, in solar heating systems and inside plumbing in washing machines and dishwashers. Hard water costs you money in many ways.

What size do I need?
The inflow pipe diameter dictates the size of the magnet required. The Comet™ magnetic water conditioning system measures in the 1500 gauss range (strength measurement).

Usually, one 13-38mm unit will perform well for the average household in most urban areas. In extreme cases, approximately 10%, water supply is excessively hard, and the regular magnet may not be strong enough to treat water sufficiently. Magnets 'R' Us do water tests and may make recommendations for an upgrade to a higher strength magnet.
